April Newsletter

Welcome my friends to April!

We are officially in the season of awakening.  April is here and with that comes the annual thaw, lengthening of days, budding vegetation, and energetic shifts that arrive with it. In this transitional period, we move out of our regenerative winter state, and begin to plant metaphoric (and literal) seeds to sow. Mimicking the cycles of nature, this is a time to plan, set intentions and prepare for the  light filled days ahead. Moving into this season of expansion and growth, we here at ABY want to support you to ensure you fill your own cup and nourish yourself in addition to all of the adventures you find yourself on outside of the studio. Here is what we got going on for April:

Annual Membership Renewal - (A spring investment to nourish you all year long!). Our 3 year Anniversary is coming up in May and to celebrate, our Annual Full Moon Membership will be on sale for the first 10 lucky yogis who lock in at an incredibly discounted rate.  Click Here to get on the waitlist and be first to know when our Annual Membership Sale is live.

April Special Events:

Free Community Class with Sara- Join Sara for a Forrest Yoga class at ABY on Saturday April 12th 4-5pm. A great opportunity to get to know our new teacher Sara and dive deeper into the practice of Forrest Yoga. This practice  focuses on learning to breathe deeply,  build strength safely and targets your “core” (that’s all the muscles attached to your pelvis, btw.) You will have the opportunity to  lengthen and loosen tight spots and build up a sweat through rhythmic movements as well as longer-held poses.

Free Community Class with Kanako- Join Kanako on Sunday April 27th 4-5pm for a heated shakti flow class where we will move, breath and sweat together as a community.  This class will move at a brisk pace for over half of the class and leads to a strong peak pose or sequence. It includes: music to drive the momentum of the class, connection to breath and intention, sun salutations, strong standing sequences, one breath/one movement flows, peak poses, and a cooldown. In this class you can expect creative, dance-like sequencing and inspired messaging.

BIPOC Yoga w/Angelica. Held downtown on the mornings of April 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. Come move, breathe, and heal together as a community.

Yoga for Recovery is continuing to flourish! Join Naomi 6:30 -8 on Saturday April 5th. Not sure if this is for you? It is. Read more and DONATE here to support this live giving program at ABY!

Queer Care Saturday April 5th 11am-12pm. Led by our wonderful teacher, Summer, she will cultivate a safe and supportive space to express yourself freely through movement and breath.

As Audrey Hepburn said - “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” We are looking forward to planting and believing with you all in this new season together. Lets breathe deep my friends.

In beauty,

ABY team

Thanks for submitting!

Land Acknowledgement: It is our privilege and honor at Auke Bay Yoga to live, work, and practice here on Lingít Aani, on the unceded territory of the Áak'w Kwáan who have resided in this area since time immemorial, and who have historically been displaced from what we know today as Berners Bay and the Auke Bay areas of D'zantiki Héeni, known by its colonized name of Juneau.

We would also like to recognize our relatives of the Taku River, the T'aaku Kwáan who came to reside at Anax Ya Andagan Ye' otherwise known as South Douglas, without recognizing them would further contribute to the erasure of their very existence and the many contributions they have made to this community in the past, now, and in the future. The T'aaku are our relatives, we care for them, and are thankful for the stewardships they too will continue to make in perpetuity.

Gunalchéesh to the Áak'w Kwáan for your continued stewardship and guidance as we move forward together recognizing the historical and ongoing harms of colonialism. We humbly give thanks to the land and its ancestors for their wisdom, strength, and generosity. May we honor and protect this sacred earth together for generations to come.
