Why do you teach yoga?

I teach yoga because of the wonder it brings me, I believe spirituality interwoven with movement is a wonderful, satisfying practice that feeds the soul and the body at once. Through my rigorous Spiritual Warrior classes, the flows of the asanas become familiar, a sort of meditation in movement, enabling practitioners to feel connected to their bodies, their minds and each other during class. The Spiritual Warrior sequence is taught in studios all over the world, which allows practitioners to feel at ease joining a familiar SW class in different states and countries. Connecting with a higher power; (the universe, God, Krishna, the collective) through yoga fosters a sense of security and confidence in oneself that enables students to be empathetic and harmonious moving through the world. Jivamukti strongly supports "ahimsa," the belief in leading a non-violent, compassionate lifestyle, from civil rights to caring for the environment and the ethical treatment of animals.

How do you want students to feel after class?

After class, Jivamukti students will feel the gentle relaxation of warm muscles, the buzz of energy flowing through them, and be buoyed spirituality by the ending combination of meditation and a closing chant of "Om, Shanti, Hari Om," the final sung note of which vibrates through the body as we mark the end of our practice.
